About The Crucible
Crucible Bookii
I’m Melanie and this is my near real-time memoir of my life in the Crucible…because falling in love changed everything.
A crucible is a container that can withstand very high temperatures and is used for metal, glass, and pigment production as well as a number of modern laboratory processes. While crucibles historically were usually made from clay, they can be made from any material that withstands temperatures high enough to melt or otherwise alter its contents. From Wikipedia
People ask me what the Crucible Bookii is. In 2000 I was recently divorced and trying to figure out what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. I changed careers and became a business coach and I met Mel who eventually became my husband. At the time I met Mel I was straight and Mel is a transgender man (a female to male transsexual). At the time I met Mel, he had not yet transitioned. I was terrified and I didn’t think I was brave enough to step out of my comfort zone to be with Mel even though I very much wanted to. I sent Mel away because I was afraid. I couldn’t face coming out to my family and friends and changing my identity in the world. I was scared of change. There was a day that I looked at myself in the mirror and I realized I didn’t want to be the person that wasn’t brave enough to live my life the way I wanted to.
I didn’t want to live in fear. I didn’t think I could look at myself in the mirror anymore if I didn’t try to make things work with Mel. When I decided to be in relationship with Mel, I put myself and my life into the fire that I came to picture as a crucible. It was hot enough for change to happen. When I put myself into the fire of the Crucible, every thing changed…because falling in love changed everything.
This is a membership site to read about my life and the journey I have been on for the last 13 years. It is also a place to think about and explore your own journey. For members, there are (or will be) videos, podcasts, occasional prizes and places to share your own writing. There is a column called “Ask Me Anything” where I answer some readers’ questions. I have made a few articles free that you can read here to see if you would like to be a member. I hope you will enjoy them and I hope you will stay and be a part of the Crucible community.
