21 Day Yoga Challenge: Day 20

Nov 17, 13 21 Day Yoga Challenge: Day 20

We have a big family excursion to Stratford Chef School today to experience my daughter’s first Stratford Chef School lunch.   I have prepped everyone that we will leave very shortly after my return from yoga.  It feels like I am taking a lot of time for me with yoga.  I am not used to having so many activities just for me.  It feels good and like I am prioritizing my health.  Going first thing in the morning means not having to disrupt anyone else’s day.  Also, it is hard to find distractions and conflicts at 6:30 am on weekdays or 8:00 am on weekends.  I am feeling successful at setting my practice for the early mornings and sticking to it.  I am usually up at 5 or 6 anyway so it really is a great time for me. I enjoy my workout.  I am getting bendier.  There are many of the poses I am better at but I am still struggling somewhat with Child’s Pose.  It is hard for me to sit back on my knees.  I do notice that when I am tired and am pushing myself, it hurts more to be on my knees.  When I am rested and “fresh”–usually from an hour of Shavasana the previous day, my knees hurt less and I can do more on my knees. I take my towel “donut” every day and use it if I go down on one knee.  It works.  I am also starting to try to push back and sit further back in child’s pose, stretching out my knee.  I have a sense I will eventually be able to sit back on my knees again.  It will be a long, slow process, I imagine. Ten Things I Bought and Love: a few of my favorite things

Sep 20, 13 Ten Things I Bought and Love: a few of my favorite things

Buying things over the years… All of us buy a variety of things over the years.  My customer experience ranges from wild joy at what I have bought to complete disappointment.  These items are the ones I love so much I feel like I have a relationship with them.  They make my life better in a long term relationship, and I grow more and more fond of them every day.  I hope you will share some of the things in your life you love. 1.  Vitamix Blender We bought our Vitamix a few years ago when I decided our family should try eating “raw” for a month.  My previous blender lasted about 20 days and then was done.  I really wanted a Vitamix.  I had seen one in my 20’s and knew I wanted it.  When the old blender broke, I looked at Mel and said, “What will I do?”  and he said, “We better go buy you a Vitamix today.”  Vitamixes are fairly expensive and he got some real points for understanding how important it was for me.  We found one, bought it and I have been infatuated ever since with both Mel and the blender!  Mel is fond of saying, “We are part of the Vitamix family.”  It came with a video and that is how they talk about their customers.  Hokey as it is, I really like being part of the Vitamix Family! 2.  Kindle I have a Paperwhite Kindle and although I am not absolutely sure it is the best possible e-reader, I love it so much.  I love that it clears my house of the clutter from my voracious reading. 3.  The Art Quilt that hangs on the wall and says “YES!” My friend Catherine Schuler made it and I bought it as she was hanging her art show.  I look at it from my desk and it reminds me how I want to live my life. 4.  Cutco Knives I got these when the boys were little.  They were pricey...

Been Surprised by Love

Sep 13, 13 Been Surprised by Love

Since I first brought her home, Been surprised by the intensity of my love. I didn’t know I could love that deeply. When she was little and would get hurt, Been surprised by the sickness in the pit of my stomach. Now she is living on her own, Been surprised by the sense of well-being since she is home visiting. I didn’t know there’d be a little worry in the back of my mind No matter where she is or where I am, I am conscious of her in my subconscious. Been surprised it is there for her all the time. I wonder what new lessons about love I will have Been surprised by what I learned from this creature, my daughter. I didn’t know if I would love my boys the same way. They are so different and a unit–twins. Been surprised that I love them every bit as much–but each love is different. It was the newness of the eldest child that first taught me about love. My learning now comes from daily practice of carrying them with me in my...
