Worst Beauty Advice

Some months ago a very well-meaning clerk gave me a tip that changed my life–but it wasn’t for the better.  She recommended a great product called Shiseido Facial Cotton.  They are lovely, perfect cotton pads for removing make-up or swiping the face with toner.  They were a great recommendation.

However, she also made the recommendation that I tear them in half to offset the cost.  I just looked them up on-line and they retail for $9.50 in the US which means they are probably about $15 in Canada.  Now, I have had them for almost a year and I am only halfway  through the container.

The other day, I quickly grabbed one and didn’t tear it in half.  It was amazing to use the “whole” sheet.  It stayed flat and didn’t turn into a little limp ball.  It was actually pleasant.  The toner I use is $30 a bottle.  If I use a whole sheet of cotton every day, I can actually enjoy my skin care.  I could have used one package in a year if I wasn’t tearing them in half.

I think a lot about abundance in my life and this is one of those daily areas that I can remind myself of my own abundance.  I have decided to use a whole sheet every day.  It is a lovely, all natural cotton pad and it feels good on my skin.  I am going to “live a little” and treat myself.  Sometimes I am shocked by how these little things in my life can make all the difference.  I also notice how the clerk’s own thrift led her to make a recommendation based on how to be thrifty rather than the functionality of the product.  And when I think about functionality, there is probably a reason these little cotton pads are the size they are.  It is functional!
